best car for mpg

    anyone know a car that gives good mpg and is reliable was told that a 03 ibiza gives 38mpg and a 01 1.4 astra 43mpg these sound right?and what are the octavia and 206 like

    Those figures might be right but they are far from the best for MPG these days.

    Lots of cars in the 50s, some in the 60s.

    Might need more information - have you a limited budget?

    If it is your first car and your a learner i wouldn't worry too much about MPG. Seeing as you'll be spending most of your time dawdling around urban test routes, reversing around corners,unnecessary revving and stalling and turnabouts a highly efficient diesel or modern Petrol car would be a waste. You'd save more money buying a reliable small petrol car for cheap and the difference in fuel wouldn't be huge unless you spend all day on the motorways your not allowed on :pac:

    MPG is affected by a number of things. Engine size, the condition of the car and how regularly it's serviced and the style of your driving, whether you anticipate things happening ahead of you, not accelerating too hard or braking too sharply, that kind of thing.

    A car with a small engine around 10 years old will typically be giving on average around 40 mpg, if driven correctly!

    thanks great help would be getting something under 1.4 whatever make is cheapest to insure which seems like peugeot or opel at the moment and i am not one of those learners who rev for no reason and stall at every junction haha im able to drive and car would get what she needs just wonderig is there any particullar car thats heavy or light on petrol:)
