Renault laguna gears issue

    hey i was driving yesterday when i realized the car would not go in to second gear,it would make a screeching noise,every other gear worked perfect tho, i took it to the mechanic he looked at it and said it doesn't look like a cable issue more like a gearbox issue and it would not be a cheap fix,Today i decided to take the car for a long spin hey presto it changes into second gear no problem im just wondering what would cause this to happen,the car never had an issue like this before any help much appreciated

    Are you sure you weren't just grinding the gear?
