The easy part voting no is over. What next? Pat King ASTI has announced all unions will be balloted on Industrial action. Good to see they are thinking strategically-ie loading guns if there is a fight rather than waiting which is their usual stance. First thing would be withdrawal from all reforms under Croke Park. hours etc. Second Step is three days Industrial action that seems rather tepid to me but wait and see.

My general advice to all comrades is dont tune into Media too much. They hate you anyway and wont be satisfied until we have a UK style system where the avg new recruit burns out after 5 yrs (fact)

If you dont have an active union steward in your school please access your union sites.

Anyway-what is the feeling in your staffrooms?

What I am wondering is what is going to happen now that S&S is gone and since CP2 failed who is going to supervise in schools...the last time we had no supervision arrangements the schools had to close due to H&S concerns.

The proposed Croke park 2 wasn't due to kick in until July so supervision is fine at the moment but September could be interesting if they unilateral withdraw payment.

Oh I thought CP1 was to run until 2014???

CP1 is due to run until 2014 but if they government legislate for paycuts then it is null and void as it promised no pay cuts.

Oh right, so it'll be a watch and wait situation so?

S&S won't be gone without agreement because they know it will create horrible situations.

Also pay cuts will be done yet nothing specific will be gotten rid of, again because of no agreement.

Yes and No. You will be balloted soon. This will ask you if you are prepared to take part in Industrial action up to and including 3 days strike. As for S and S -I doubt they will end that payment as would lead to school chaos indefinitely. Think back to last strike. 2001. They will prob try to cut our overall pay thus leaving the kiddies supervised and avoiding permanent school shut down on safety grounds.

That would be messy if S and S was disrupted...September will bring interesting times so.

That's management' s concern. Think about yourself and the huge impact this 'bloody minded' government is having on education and on the students. We must remind this government and union-A.S.T.I. and Mr King that members have already voted. Who is the A.S.T.I. representing?

Remember management are also your teaching colleagues and also represented by the tui and asti. Also as part of this management, I want to know what the story is so that I can plan the year, or at least next few months.

Before you vote again in sept, one thing to bear in mind is something a colleague said to me "you might get a pay cut reversed eventually but you'll never get a condition of service back, our profession has fought long and hard for these conditions" I was willing to work more hours as long as they didnt cut my pay anymore as i find it difficult to make ends meet every month. So to translate what he meant if we lose money thru a unilateral pay cut there is always a chance to claw it back in future. But if we lose, for example, paid S and S then it becomes a normal part of the job for us and future teachers...not alone will they cut pay for S and S but they expect us to work more of it...the Govt must be laughing all the way to their friends in the bank.
This made me change my mind on CP2.

Absolutely Marcc, plus remember that our conditions will change more drastically that any other public servant. We will essentially be accepting the new JCert, marking our own students & working in June. It's very easy for the ASTI leadership to accept 'interim agreements' & all that it involves, when they won't ever be doing the extra work themselves.

My feelings on the ASTI leadership and all union leaders aren't positive...trying not to upset their labour bedfellows...on a different point...no boss of a teaching union should be paid more than a teacher at the top end of our scale...also i think although i stand to be correct in this now agreement the Govt can change our contract and conditions of work when ever they like without agreement...
