    Hello
I have a question regarding Teaching Practice as part of the Professional Diploma in Education at University College Cork for the academic year 2013/14. I was recently accepted onto this course. However, i am having extreme difficulty is securing a school in the Cork region to do my teaching practice. I have sent application to 20 schools but they usually reply saying "we only take on past pupils." I was wondering does anyone have any experience or advice on this and how i should proceed in getting a school?
    Kind Regards,
    Limerick2009.

    Hi Limerick,

I had this issue with the Hibernia course and found it extremely difficult to find teaching practice. Schools just don't seem to want students anymore was what I was told by principals. Im still trying to find one TP block in the Tipperary/Limerick area and even my own secondary school cant take me! It's very frustrating. What I would suggest is that try get one school for all blocks- Ive my second and third block sorted already its my first block I cant find. What are your subjects?

It is hard and you dont want to feel like you are hounding schools either. let me know how you get on!

I found it difficult to find 6 weeks of teaching in a school this year too.
I presume you are calling in to each school but if you're not its really important! Its much easier to say no on the phone rather than in person.
There's no easy solution and if you have tried the city schools and suburbs go out futher to places like Bandon, Kinsale etc.
You should also try emailing your course coordinator. Some professors have ties with certain schools so they might be able to get you in that way. A girl in my class got her school that way.
