How much silage should a 350kg heifer eat?

I am buying silage of a neighbour. He reckons there is 6 ton in a load. I don't think there is that amount. I am feeding 38 store heifers who are getting 2kg of ration per head per day. The load lasts 8 days. This means they are eating 750kg of silage per day or nearly 20kg per head per day. Would this be correct.

1.8% of bodyweight in dry matter which would be 6.3kg dry matter if silage is 30% dm they would be eating 21kg fresh silage each.

Very little pit silage is 30%DM. cattle can eat 2% of there body weight if they have unrestricted intake and feed is fresh. 350kg animal can eat 7kgs dry matter per day. 2kgs ration @86%DM will provide 1.72kga DM. So ad-lib silage could make up 5.3kgs od the diet DM. 5.3/20 equates to 26.5 DM silage.

It is more than likely a bit less as you may be rationing it to some extent.
