Contacting company befor interview

    I have an interview coming up and I have read the job description and what the company is looking for for the role

    Now I'm wondering if I should contact the HR department (no contact name given in job posting) to ask questions about what's expected/required in the role. The reason I want to do this is it may give me more information about the targets I will have and what would be expected of me, I'd like to contact the company as I want to have the best possible answer to the why do you want to work for us/what's your understanding of this role?

    I'm asking as I did this befor with the job I have now and just got bounced back to the receptionist and was advised by HR all the info is in the job posting :mad:

    Is it worth my while contacting the company just so that I am as prepared as posible for the interview, essentially what I'm asking is do people usually call the company beforhand for more info on the role or do they just prepare for interviews with the info given?

    I wouldn't waste my time on this to be honest. If they wanted you to have such specific information on actual targets, goals etc. they would have made that available in the job description.
    Does the job advert already list some core skills/competencies, responsibilities and educational requirements for the role? If so, I would concentrate on those and on developing your answers to show how your skills would be of benefit in the duties and responsibilities of this role. If you do a good job preparing that, you will already be demonstrating to them your ability to help achieve targets, etc. Good luck with it.

    I normally ask for a job spec and what format the interview will take when I'm contacted for an interview. Usually, HR are pretty good about letting me have one. If I don't get one (which is rare), then I just pick out the competencies stated in the interview and google any job descriptions that might match the job.
