Bad news for the safety of cochlear implants

    An American jury has awarded $7.25 million to an eleven-year old girl for damages, which were caused by her defective cochlear implant. "She lived in a cold, dark, deaf world while Advanced Bionics shareholders enjoyed millions of dollars in sales-based bonuses," her lawyers said in a pretrial brief.

    Unfortunately, cochlear implant sometimes can do more serious harm than good, so that it cannot be for everyone.

    But the girl had the faulty implant replaced with a different make/model and doesn't appear to have any issues with the new implant.
