    Hi

A pack of hairclips was accidentally left in a wash today and wasn't realised until after and I checked the filter and took them out.

Now the washing machine is making a funny noise and doesn't seem to be turning when I put it on a spin cycle. Any advice?

also check if the drum can spin round. Underwired bras are a washing machines greatest enemy, so maybe a hairclip is stopping the drum from being able to move round.

Apologies if I'm asking a stupid question but how do I check the pump?

I can manually turn the drum myself but it's not doing it as part of a cycle. Instead it's making a funny noise.

You need to drain the water from the machine if not already done.
Then open the filter usually a small door on the front of the machine.
Unscrew the cover and remove and debris there.
If still stuck you might have to take out the machine and remove the pump and clean.

If it's still making 'a funny noise' then it could be the bearing but clean out the filter first

I have cleaned the filter already and it's completely free but still having the problem with the drum moving in a cycle.

It could also be the belt has come off the drum pulley, ordinary hair clips wouldnt usually cause too much of a problem, jamed pump, initial restriction on drum movement, but the clips do usually end up in the filter.

Ok, thanks, guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and call a repair technician tomorrow to come look at it.

You probably have clips in the gap between the inner (rotating) drum and the outer (fixed) drum. Sadly it'll probably be a fairly major job to get them out.
