Post Primary Schools Opening September, Where?

    Hi all,
    Can anyone shed some light on the 4 new post primary schools that are definitely opening this September, 2013.
    Anyone know where are they located?

    I’m trying to track down principles to send my C.V. to over the next few weeks, before the deluge.

    I’m an English and History/R.E. teacher out here in Abu Dhabi.
    I’m 27 and hedging my bets on chancing coming home after 2 years in Scotland before this, as I have now 4 years experience.

    Anyone think it's now or never with the 14 new schools and new junior cycle next year, or am I mad? Any prospects for me? ☹

    Any information and advice gladly welcomed

    Elaine

    This is meant to be helpful rather than smart but if you're applying for an English job and addressing your CV to the person in charge be careful how you spell the word highlighted.

    Thanks Powerhouse, I am suitably mortified!

    Claregalway, thanks for that, I presume that they are going to be VEC mostly, I'm surprised there has not been much fanfare about it all.

    Would the new jobs in new VEC's be redeployments from other VEC schools who are over quota? I'd imagine so

    From what I've heard the new principal in Claregalway has been appointed and has come from the school in Athenry and is taking some of his staff with him. With amalgamation of Galway City, Galway County and Roscommon VECs (and schools over quota) I'd imagine most of the positions in the new school will already be filled.

    I'm told that there's a new Gaelcholáiste opening in Dundrum in Dublin and I think it's supposed to be opening this year. No use to you unless you speak Irish obviously.

    New post-primary schools in 2013 will be in:

    Lusk;
    Claregalway;
    Naas;
    Navan.

    New post-primary schools in 2014 will be in:

    Cork City (gaelcholaiste);
    Blanchardstown;
    Mulhuddart;
    Maynooth;
    Drogheda;
    Dundalk;
    Ashbourne;
    Balbriggan;
    Dundrum.

    Jaysus, Dublin and Meath must be bursting at the seams.

    The principal in Athenry VS has indeed got the claregalway job. As its a VEC though he won't be able to choose to bring staff with him BUT I'm sure a few will be looking to move if its suits them more for travel etc .
    There will have to be some jobs advertised and available so keep an ye on the county VEC website

    I'm in Kildare VEC and staff have already been asked to express interest in transfer to Maynooth, Naas and Celbridge. My principal says the principal for Maynooth will not be appointed until next November however

    That's great info thefasteriwalk, well I had presumed he would have sway to bring some of his local teachers onboard. However, I didn’t contemplate Galway and Roscommon VEC being over quota. Teaching gods give me a break….the English/History jobs are bound to be gone already ☹

    My plan is to focus on the 4 new schools as they will be all about rolling out the new Junior Cycle, as seems to be the case in Claregalway. The whole selling point of my C.V. and application letter is the fact I’ve two years teaching in Scotland and the new cycle is practically modeled on Scotland and the UK.

    Is there much planning going on in schools for it, or am I completely off track ?

    Will this mean more jobs for unemployed teachers or mostly redeployments?

    Zero planning for it happening at the moment

    The schools aren't actually open yet so no planning until they do except at VEC/Department level I would assume. My guess would be that the principal and secretarial staff will get in over the summer with the final addition of teaching staff close to school opening? Having said that this is entirely conjecture on my part!

    I think Elainey means planning for the new JC. No schools I know of are planning for it, but I have seen references online where people are talking about schools involved in a pilot scheme, but I haven't actually heard anything official about it.

    Poor choice of words on my part, but I assume they would be looking for transfer to the new school and I would imagine there would be no real reason not to let this happen.

    Roscommon is over quota, I work there. Added to that Sligo county is over quota by 10 teachers. We all got letters a few months back about voluntary redeployment. Every school in Roscommon/Leitrim/Sligo/Mayo/Donegal and some of Galway that was over quota was on it (both VEC and Department). The voluntary redeployment was being offered to try and bring the Sligo numbers down.

    Totally misread that sorry. To be honest I haven't heard anything about the new Junior Cert roll out since the PPMTA conference in October, nothing happening in my school atm.

    Thanks for your replies, this is proving bleak but informative.

    I’m clearly out of the loop out here in the Middle East, I’ve the spent the last month tunneling through the NCCA material online about the new junior cycle in the hope of impressing principals… If I ever get an actual interview.

    Thanks Rainbowtrout, I will still send my C.V. to the principal in Claregalway and to Kildare VEC and chance my arm. One final question, am I right in estimating most jobs come out mid to late June and again in early August?

    Hi Guys,

    I am currently finishing up the PDE at the moment, on the home stretch :). Just wondering of there is a list anywhere of the schools which opened in the last few years and which may not have reached capacity yet? Thanks in advance.

    That list is missing Kishoge Community College opening in Lucan in 2014.

    And Greystones secondary opening in 2014 under the patronage of the CofI

    There aren't too many. The only one I can think of off-hand is the new school in Gorey; however, I'd imagine a lot of vacancies in these will be filled by redeployments. It's that time of year again. A man who has been in my school for two years found out on Tuesday that his post is now gone due to a redeployment.

    I believe there is also a new school in the castlegar area of galway city

    Been filling a part time role myself since September - looking to be as prepared as possible for next September too.

    As regards looking for jobs, is educationposts.ie still the best website to use?

    And the VEC websites also?

    Believe me, I am under no illusion of the job situation, but feel that surely schools which have not yet reached full enrollment probably offer the best opportunity of employment.

    Two new schools in Galway, Claregalway and Doughiska. Both are taking staff already in the system from what my neighbour said. She works within the county system. Most schools are losing teachers to redeployment.

    It looks like many of the patrons view these as 'image important/flagship schools'' for the relevant patron body as the population is sill rising and new schools will continue to be required.

    With that in mind they seem happier to look in house/through redeployment for experienced teachers than to hire outright. I guess it makes sense to not have a load of brand new staff in together so you have at least some experienced and even better if some have worked together before?

    Yes I asked an educate together spokesman were positions going to be filled through redeployment and he said yes until the schools had gone through a cycle anyway and then "hopefully".

    Does anyone have any information on the new school opening in Navan? Wondering if it is VEC or voluntary secondary? Also wondering about its whereabouts? Maybe they are looking for an English teacher...........................fingers crossed.
