Experiences of crime in Maynooth

I'm curious to see how many people here have experienced crime or know someone that has in the last year.

A few minutes ago I popped outside for a smoke and noticed that my neighbour had left his bike in the front garden. I know crime is up recently so I knocked on his door to tell him.

He told me that his house had been robbed twice in the past year. They took his son's wages that he'd been saving, all his wife's jewellery, and a few hundred in sterling they'd been saving for a holiday. Then he pointed across the road and told me that some of the houses across the road had been burgled too, and the house next to his had been burgled three times since summer. So it seems it's far worse than I certainly thought!

A few months ago my old apartment was robbed, and they got about 2.5K worth of my stuff, including my work computer.

Has anyone else been broken into or know someone that has?

I know a couple of second year students whose house was broken into over a weekend I think about two weeks ago. Ransacked the place, stole play station, games, money, old phones, half used perfumes and other stuff and then turned the electric blankets and immersion on before they left.

Two years ago I was living up there for college. The lads living next door came home one day to find a cement block through their sitting room window and playstation, ipod, stuff like that missing

Some friends of mine (4th years) were broken into in January. They didn't get much considering they were at home with their valuables (it was during the week between the end of exams and the start of semester 2.

House broken into 3 years back (Beaufield). Computers, money gone then they trashed the place.

Had a wiper completely torn on my car a while ago and the paint was keyed.

Yeah, heard of it happening a few times to people I know - laptops and stuff taken. I'd say it's common enough around anywhere with a big student population seeing as there's always going to be something to rob.
