How long are arrest warrants valid?

If someone is caught drink driving four times within three weeks and then skipped it before being arrested.

it's an outstanding warrant and remains valid until person is arrested.

Arrest warrants do not expire. It remains valid until executed or until the person hands themselves in voluntarily, at which point they will be informed they are under arrest.

4 times in three weeks ..... would an irish judge send someone to prison for that?

A person is arrested under the relevant acts for drink driving at the time they are caught, for the purpose of getting a sample. The person is released and either charged on a charge sheet or a summons arrives later.

So I do not understand why an arrest warrant would be sought for drink driving offences. Is it a bench warrant that has been issued.

Yes more than likely 3-6 months.

    Thanks everyone.

I spoke to a family member who now isn't sure if it was an arrest warrant, summons or bench warrant. Although I am assuming a bench warrant, but I'm not sure, I have no clue about warrants or legal issues to be honest.

They said the warrant that they think it is, is only valid for seven or ten years or something.

They were actually caught three times in four weeks, and appeared in court once, but then the case was postponed and they they didn't appear at the new court date.

Sounds like a Bench Warrant then. As soon as they are found they will be arrested and brought to court.

Thanks. Do bench warrants expire? I'm guessing not.

How long will the person be in prison for roughly? I know you can't give an exact answer as it depends on the judge and case, but even an idea would be helpful.

If bail is agreed then will be released straight away. If bail refused will be in custody until matters are heard including appeals. Doubt that bail will not be agreed in drink drivings. His best bet is to contact a solicitor.

The person that was caught left the country a few weeks before their last court date and haven't been back since, so as they've been on the run, would bail even be an option?

How much would bail be roughly?
