Will the upgrade happen automatically or have you to do it manually; and what channel no is the Saorview SSU. My walker TV needs an upgrade for Aertel badly

Happens automatically in the backround. It's a data channel (no audio/video/etc.), doesn't appear in the epg.

The upgrade is provided by the manufacturer and transmitted by RTÉNL over the Saorview network. A manufacturer may never provide an update for their products.

Read the manual for your equipment. If Saorview approved it ought to be automatic. In theory if something supports OTA upgrades in a manner compatible with Saorview the Manufacturer could pay RTENL to transmit the upgrade even if the equipment was never certified. Unlikely though.

see http://www.saortv.info/news/ for some thoughts on it.

Stores it in "Others" on a Sony EX524 series TV. I think it appears in the EPG for me. Called SSU.

It is on the EPG on my Samsung TV in the 800's.

It says "Coming Soon..." for EPG info strangely...

Updated SSU download schedule for the Walker WP645TS-HD and WP10DTB STBs.

    02:00 - 07:00 08/04/13 - 06/05/13 Walker WP645TS-HD
    02:00 - 07:00 06/05/13 - 20/05/13 Walker WP10DTB

Downloads appear to use RTÉ1+1/RTÉjr capacity when these channels are off-air, between 02:00 - 07:00.

Alternatively you can force the firmware without waiting on the SSU data channel to do it for you.

    Walker Model WP645 ONLY

Put on a usb stick. Put in USB slot. Box will pick it up automatically. the box will reboot itself. Don't touch anything whilst its doing this.

Sorry if I am off topic on the thread, but thought I would ask?
I notice on the Humax Fox STB,(Given to the over 70's free in the North),appears to change the 1080 indication when switching between programmes. It switches back from 1080p to 1080i when returning to say studio o/p?As far as I know ,no one transmits progressive scan in this neighbourhood?

    You're way off-topic.

Freeview HD switches between progressive & interlaced, if I'm not mistaken.

I hate off-topic posts like this & I'll be deleting this once you read it.

Didn't mean to upset people, are we not on the on the topic of STB's? and is it not relevant to mention a strange indication appearing on thousands of boxes?
It may be a query in the wrong place, but I didn't want to start a new thread for my own purposes.
With no broadband in my area its quite an effort to have access to a computer, maybe I should not have bothered?

The Freeview HD channels dynamically switch between 1080i50 & 1080p25, depending on scene content.

Still has damn all to do with this thread topic, but there you are. :)
