    Hi

Looking for advise more than anything.

I am a postgrad who has one particular lecturer for three subjects. He has promised since the first half of the year to put his notes online (Moodle) but despite being just about half way through study month, and having approached him several times for notes, they still aren't online.

Is it worth me going to the head of dept. about? its fairly hard to study for exams without the notes.

As far as I know, UCC don't use moodle as their online portal, its Blackboard. What did the lecturer say when you asked him? Have others approached him as well?

most of our lecturers opted to use moodle this year instead of blackboard, those who don't have their own websites to post notes on and everyone of them update their notes on a weekly basis apart from this one lecturer.

When I asked him, or any of the class ask him, we are told 'I'll have them up by this evening or tmw at the latest' - this is every week since the September/October.

I approached him in his office twice last week to ask for notes and past exam papers to be put online, as have my class mates and I keep getting the same answer - its getting a little ridiculous at this point, particularly when we are so close to sitting his exams as well as the others.

As much as I love google, its not going to help me cover what is in his notes!

I'd say its time to go to the head of department - since when do UCC use moodle??

Lecturers choice really. Most use blackboard, but I've had some with their own websites, or on moodle

When I was there, it was blackboard with a few on their own websites, but never moodle

Choice to use moodle seems very odd to me. Blackboard is the university norm.

It's not compulsory for lecturers to put their notes online (moodle, blackboard or other) and they are quite within their rights not to. THat being said, if he said he would put them up, then he can't very well change his mind at this stage. Talk to head of department or who ever is coordinating the postgraduate course.

this is part of my dilemma, he is also our course coordinator.

and yes I know blackboard is the norm, but its not used for our masters - their decision not ours.

have emailed him again this morning and will decide then what to do if he doesn't respond.

We are also waiting on results from him for the first semester as well as other lecturers.

Organized chaos is the only way to describe it from where we sit.

and Omar High Relaxation - how are u supposed to cover their topics in detail if they don't give you the power points.

I take notes either by shorthand or by typing but they don't compare to the notes that would be in a lecturers powerpoint presentation.

Powerpoint became the university norm in the last ten years. Before that, you did what every other student since the beginning of time did.... listen and take notes.

That doesn't excuse what has happened here. Obviously, if the lecturer says she/he is going to make the slides available, you will be less likely to take notes. Therefore, he has to follow through with his promise. Unfair not to.

this morning he finally posted the results for the first semesters work, but still no notes online, and no response to further emails.

its time to move to the next step I think and ask the head of dept to deal with it.
