He's been saying that for ages though, the 1000th anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf next year would have been a perfect time for a film about Brian Boru.

I have heard Jim Fitzpatrick mentioning plans that involved Stuart Townsend before, don't know if anything ever came of or is likely to come of it.

Something I would love to see all the same.

I've heard Leonardo DiCaprio being rumoured to play Brian Boru, not a good choice in my opinion even though I'm a fan of his.

The life of Queen Medh would be a good story to base a film on.

There is this awe inspiring Grainne Uaile film coming up later in the year. From the trailer it looks like the find of film that Syfy channel would pass on.

Not quite mythology but there was an Irish film shot on 35mm (rare back then, most were shot on 16) in 1982 called "Outcasts" with Mick Lally that I thought was good when I seen it as a young lad one night on RTE in or around 1987, kind of magic or mysticism as opposed to mythology per se though, as a kid I was kind of shocked at a scene where a man riding a topless woman up against a tree turned into a goat riding her, pretty wild stuff back then! Its probably shiite and impossible to find now anyway so I 'll never know if it was any good, anyone else remember it?:

What the fcuk is that shiite? Never heard of the Sissy Channel but I'm sure they would pass, looks like it was shot on vhs in 1983. Is this an example of the great undiscovered Irish talents that you were banging on about on the other thread Darko?

You obviously missed the sarcasm in my post. The guy behind it is not a great talent and I imagine that the film will be terrible but tbf, that teaser is far more entertaining than King of the Travellers.

There is a hell of a lot of young Irish talent out there, but that's a discussion for another thread.

I saw this trailer a while ago, the trailer bored me close to tears and I don't intend to put myself through watching the whole thing.
If people want to make a film about Irish mythology, don't, unless you have a big budget, it's an insult to it.

pretty sure he is referring to the syfy channel. the cgi blood spatters during those sword fighting scenes were nothing short of amazing... and by amazing i mean they made me want to pluck out my own eyes

Jim was in work before Christmas and he mentioned he was working on a folklore script at the moment

I really hope that's deliberately as funny as it is?

It's a shame, the story of Grace O'Malley would make a brilliant historical drama. Always surprised it's not been done by now. Even if they wanted to make something lighter and go for a fun swashbuckler type film it could still work.

I'm sure if they keep making POTC films they'll probably throw her in there at some point

It's a shame more isn't being made of the Irish myths. There's some great material there that would give a lot of room for creativity and that someone could do a lot with. I always thought Deirdre of the Sorrows could make a good film. The Children of Lir could make for some pretty f*cked up stuff too.

Always thought Children of Lir could make a great studio ghibli type animated film.

Aw right, just a coincidence then. Anyway he's a comic book artist and they were trying to pimp his Cu Chulainn graphic novel to Fassbender's production company yesterday.

Read it last week, really good comic book. Only problem with trying to bring something like to the screen is unless you have a pretty sizable budget it will be hard to do it justice.
