I'm 18 and still in school and don't have a job. I've heard that I'm eligible to draw the dole but my parents have told me they think you have to be out of school. If I am eligible how do I go about drawing it? I don't plan for drawing it for long. Only till I get out of school. Once I'm in college I'll stop drawing it(provided I can draw it in the first place) Anyway, can someone please tell me if I'm entitled to draw the dole? Thanks!

Your parents are correct. You have no entitlement while at 2nd level. If you go to 3rd level, you will not be entitled to anything until 3 months after your course ends.

I would not think so as to be eligible for Jobseeker's Allowance you must be actively seeking work and be available - which you are not as you are a student. Link to page below!

This is incorrect... the 3 month wait is from secondary level.

My mistake. You are correct. Mind you, with the tightening of rules at DSFA, don't be surprised if the same happens at 3rd level.

Mmmmm... I would think it highly unlikely...this isnt a forum for discussion but... if they decided to put a 3 month hold after you get your degree while you look for a job... then perhaps when you are made redundant there may also be a 3 month hold... that would be fairly archaic.... but this discussion is for another day and another forum.
