sorry, ive gone off on tangents here a few times today but it happens to the best of us after being with threads for a few months.

just thought this would be an interesting topic and something that isnt put into perspective properly when comparing

id just like to show ye what a great bang for your buck you get buying second hand if youve got the confidence to do so.

heres one i picked up a few weeks back as pictured. c50 top line frame with the ambrosio wheels, full campag record and fsa plasma bars. retailing as pictured i imagine about 5000e considering ridculous price of frame, well specced wheels and those bars being about 400e

    colnagoc50.jpg

now heres a felt f75 with wheels youd expect to find hanging off a barbell and an incomplete 105 groupset (cheap fsa chainset etc)

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/felt-f75-105-2013/

just a bit of food for thought. obviously people like their warranty and the feeling that their safe on the bike because of no previous owners but thought id throw the idea out there

Sweet did you start this thread to blow your trumpet :D.
Your dead right, i do agree re buying second hand. But as you say yourself you need to know your stuff, be patient, be flexible and have a seller who realistic about the market (i.e. the impact btw and online sellers have had on second hand bike values).

    Nice bike for the price.

Sell them and maybe jump in this thread and get black hong-fu ones. Or just buy something nice in black. I'd put black and white zebra tape on them. Bottle cage fuc*s up the asthetic too.

Edit: christ i just noticed the cable housing colour and brakes. Was this guy colour blind. Black with white accents or decals is the way to go.

if i was going for hong fu ones id prob get something else chinese like those "cinelli ram 2" bars that are floating about in the land of ching chong if you know where to go for about 90quid but only because theyd look nice. zebra tape, now thats an idea i'll have to consider! i have itm millenium bars lying around which would be nice and a stem and seatpost to match. bottle cage is a mess for sure, black cages of any sort will do the trick.

the guy was probably colour blind but i did get this one in from Italy as it happens so it might just be that hes italian

How did you find it as a matter of interest? Do you have favourite sites (or is that a secret? ;-)

Nice one OP. There is savage value to be had in second hand bikes and most people with top of the line machines look after them better than they do their own children!
That's a 5 or 6 year old frame isn't it? So that's the kind of money you'd expect for a bike that age, though you certainly did well with the wheels at that price.

Best thing for the buyer is that you could ride that for a few years, look after it and when you go to sell it, it's still a colnago, it's still a C50, and if it's still in good nick you'll probably get most of that 1400 quid back from a new buyer!

hiya, nah to be fair now this was a right bargain. c50 fully built with 7800 used to retail up and over 6 grand. the frames have maintained value and sell second for 900e plus/ i wouldve called wheels below par for bike. frame 5 years old im thinking. definitely reckon could sell for much more than bought if ever wanted it over next year or two.

thanks for comment, true about looking after bikes at that money though!
