folks, i need your help. I am purchasing something online at the moment, its a product that can be sent online and the vendor asked me if i would put the money directly into her bank account to avoid the paypal fees. now i have spoken to her on skype and email etc for 2 weeks to vet what i am purchasing as much as possible and i have no reason to fear anything going wrong but it is a substantial sum of money so i just want to be careful that if she doesnt hold up her end of the bargin that i am not left out of pocket.
so is it safe to transfer money directly into a bank account in croatia, meaning if anything went wrong have i a chance of getting my money back? thanks for your help

That ain't your problem. Pay with PayPal

Seriously, pay by PayPal. If it's a 'substantial' amount of money, she shouldn't be worrying about PayPal fees. Chances of you getting money back if you do a direct transfer and the item is bogus are very very slim.

Many german sellers avoid paypal, and only want bank transfers. A bank transfer is usually not free anyway, and there is all the hassle with organising it.

With all my german auctions I used to email in advance and tell them I would prefer to pay via paypal and would add on an additional 4% to cover the fees, not a single guy refused it.

In this case it already sounds like they were willing to accept paypal from the start, in which case they should have factored in the paypal fees. If this is the case then it is the same as them offering a product for €100 including buying/postal insurance, and factoring in this insurance cost in their original price, and now asking you to do without the insurance.
