MD wedges advice or other

    Hi

looking to get a proper set of wedges (gap, sand & lob) and not sure what to go for!

I play on a West of Ireland parkland course which (given the last 3 - 4 summers) is going to be soft on the ground quite a lot of the time. Am also conscious of price as I will only get out at the moment about once every 2 weeks. Play off 11

    Have a few queries:

    1. for gap and lob - how high bounce should i get considering soft ground. is 8 enough or should i go more?

    2. for sand wedge considering the sand can be compacted due to wet conditions and also club skimping on sand - what is best bounce?

    3. have read quite a bit about MD Seve wedges and for the money would appear to be a good option?

    4. or 2nd hand vokeys?

I know there have been threads before on this but a lot of the answers can be a little vague i.e. get a high bounce (how high???)

also, i am trying to get answers specific to conditions i will be playing in as mentioned above

    appreciate all help and advice

All I'd contribute is that MD wedges are excellent. Have used them and find them as good as models twice the price. Not sure about the Seve model but the Norman Drew model is a fantastic club.
For sand wedge I'd be going for around 10* or 12* bounce

I've also purchased two of the md wedges, I got the older seve version in the standard bounce and think they're brilliant. I went for the 52 and 56. I find the 56 great out of a bunker. I purchased from dunluce golf. If you email them and tell them you were told about them on boards they'll knock a few bob off for you

I have the 56 and 60 degree Seve Pedrena wedges. They are super! Your bunkers sound similar to ours and I have no problem with them.... Usually ;-)
Got them from Dunluce Golf and if I remember correctly they were about €86 for both including delivery! Had a lesson recently for lobbing from bare lies and the pro said they were very good! Great spin from them too.

thanks for responses - was onto Dunluce Golf and they have given me a great deal for the 3 wedges so looks like i'll go down that route

only thing bugging me is that I played for first time in 9 months the other day and was getting great spin out of my old vokey 50 degree!!!

    anyway - thanks again!

I have the Norman Drew wedges, 52, 56, & 60, standard bounce. Actually bought for me as a present because of the shamrock logo - long story! Best golf related present ever, brilliant clubs. I prefer then to my old Mizunos. I even bought a low bounce 56 degree model second hand to try out - great from hard sand.

A sand wedge may not be the best club from wet compacted sand. A lob wedge with its lesser bounce may be better.

The softer the sand then the more bounce you require......you can add a bit by opening the club-face.

Cant disagree with you about the LW but it was just an observation about the low bounce ND SW. Bought it cheap to try out on bare and hard links courses and found, by accident, it also worked a treat from wet sand!:D

    thanks again for additional comments.

appreciate comment on lob wedge from sand - could use it on my home course and use standard bounce 56 when in lighter fluffier sand i guess.

appreciate referral for Dunluce too as they gave me a great deal on the 3!
