was watching a few reruns of topgear last night, and I see that the lads chairs are converted car seats

so anyone ever done it in practice, how did it turn out?

can't see why it wouldn't make a pretty comfy office chair?

next step up would be a seat from a car that has a massage function, but anyone ever done it with a conventional seat?

Recaro do office chairs but they arn't a clone of the racing versions. They'd actually be rather uncomfortable if they were. Best one's I've seen are the Harrier Jump-Jet ejection seats and associated office furniture. Looks very cool but completely unpractical.

If you knew someone handy with metal work and you did the wiring, no reason why you couldn't take a nice S-Class seat and make it into an office chair.

I wonder if I could take out my Focus leather heated seat with electric adjustment, that'd be lovely.

Im actually handy enough at the metal work myself, it should be easy only wondering before I go off and get a comfy car seat for myself

are the heating and cooling embedded in the seat or are they seperate

Did this last year with an office chair.

    Had two spare front seats.

Their not cool leather or Recaros, but still :)

spill the beans how difficult is it to do?

simply get a flat plate (timber even) and drill holes such that both the swivel bit and the original seat mounting holes can both be bolted to it

how come you didn't adjust your mounting plate so that the seat base is flat like a regular office chair?

I meant to remove the front and rear seats from my 75 before I scrapped it.

The back seat would have made a lovely bench seat in the shed

Took about an hour all in.

Nice plate on the office chair, and the car seat sat nicely on it.

Did a small bit of tack welding(careful not to burn the seat).

I'll take a fe pictures when i get home and put them up.

    Highly recommend it.

looks good, think this might be a nice little project for me

I wonder whats the best seat to go for as a starting point?

I will somehow have to add armrests to it, keep as much weight off my back as possible, bad back car crash..........

a seat out of a luxury car I guess, a lexus or something like that

a seat with airbags enclosed are they likely to go off if it falls over and hops off the floor

Car seats are a support/ comfort compromise.

Normal furniture has the advantage of not having to deal with moving around, and is more comfortable for it.

Ive been thinking about this a lot lately too, was thinking also about how cool the engine table is, would be great to get a dead block and turn it into something like this
