How much should new tyres cost?

I need 2 new R14 size tyres for my car, gonna shop around at the weekend but I'm surprised how hard it is to get prices from the main sites (fast fit, etc)

I paid €60 for 1 a few years ago (a cheap brand I think) but wondering what the range is, from cheapest most basic, to bridgestones, firestones, to pirellis etc.
    thanks.

Edit - I'm talking about price including fitting.

Do you have the exact size?

a quick search top brand tyres in 14s will set you back about 80-110euro not including fitting.
This is online of course, I'd always recommend buying the tyres online and getting a local tyre place to put them on for you, most places charge around a tenner a corner for this.

Why always recommend buying online? Why not recommend actually pricing around first then deciding? Last few times I've priced on line I actually matched it with the local guy, so supporting local is more important.

Completely agree with this. I get decent branded, new tyres for my Passat and don't pay any more than about €80 per corner and usually get a bit off if buying 4.

Both good, but the problem with the online option is you need to find somewhere that will fit them for you and dispose of the old ones. By the time that cost is factored in you're probably at the same price as a decent local guy.

Jeez this is a sad state of affairs when you buy tyres online. There's at least 3 tyre garages where I live and their prices arnt that bad. I was even over to uk and prices were pretty much same.
The way things are going all our towns will be ghost towns with lack of local loyalty

I found this. Last time I was buying tires it worked out almost exactly the same price to get them online as it didnt from my local tire fitter. I know people go on about buying tires from the likes of Camskills and Eiretyres, but Im yet to see any advantage in doing this.

Just had 3 Bridgestone tyres 255/55 r17 fitted by a main dealer yesterday for 130 each.
online they were 171 each !

Worth shopping around, was cheaper than my usual tyre fitting outfit even.

With tyres there's no substitute for ringing around. None of the tyre places show prices (other than deals) online.

I've put mid-range 14s on MrsDerp's car before for 65/corner in Atlas, but no two garages of any chain are the same.

Ring around, say "I'm looking to pick up a few tyres today". Sometimes they'll offer you a good price if there's a lot in stock. Never buy the budget option and you won't go too far wrong.

Watch out though, if you plan on doing alignment, make sure you ask a price for this. I once rang around, found a great deal on tyres, and when I got there I asked them to do the alignment only to discover a 65 euro bill for alignment on the invoice afterwards. I gave out stink that I'd bought 4 tyres and they wanted way over the going rate for alignment. I got them down to 50 for it but it was still a rip off.

I buy my tyres from where it works out cheapest for me, if that is local then all the better but loyalty is earned not blindly given.

    Only seeing this now

I'd say always recommend buying online because the tyres I have on my car were 35 euro more each than buying online.

The local one cannot match that and they don't even try.
My bank account balance is more important to me.

I've never seen a tyre place come close to selling the same quality tyres for the same price as online.

Ive never had reason to buy online, local guy always as cheap or cheaper once delivery and fitting is taken into account.
Where are you pricing tyres? Discount tyres in Blanchardstown have always been on the ball price wise and service.

My bank balance is important to me too :)

I have found that with standard size tyres there *usually* no major bargins online when you include fitting, but some performance / odd sizes are always cheaper online.

If you are on a budget, do NOT buy cheap tyres, buy good quality part worns instead as the offer great value for money if you know what to look for

Again, local always as cheap in my experience. I only buy premium brand performance tyres.

Places in and around Carlow and the surrounding areas.

Never seen them come anywhere near as close to the online price

But I said that I'd recommend pricing around. You just tried one local place by the looks of it, and they were dear, so no local ever gets a chance now, and you are recommending everyone else to just buy online without checking too.
I only have my wallets interests first too, but if the local guy can match or better than online, then it's a win-win in my book. I've yet to buy online as I've yet to encounter a saving.
