2002 passat electrics fault

Hi folks, i have a 2002 1.9TDI 130 sport which has developed an electrical problem and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. Started up the car today and noticed that the Trip computer that displays MPG and outside air temp was totally dead and that the handbrake warning light was also not working along with the audible warning for brake pads low/door open etc. all this was working the night before but i think i may have heard some kind of clicking noise from either the passenger footwell or glovebox area about 2 weeks before hand. I intend to go at the wiring loom in the passenger footwell to check connections there for corrosion but was wondering if all these things are controlled by the convenience control module??? The CCM is bone dry but the wiring loom does have some moisture in and around it. I have done a check on the handbrake switch wiring by bridging the 2 connections to see if the light comes on the dash but no joy but yet this light comes on when you switch on the ignition and then goes out prior to starting the engine.any help with this would be great if anyone has come across this before as i need to NCT the car soon and the handbrake light is a requirement for the test??????

    Do a search in vwaudiforum.co.uk or passatworld.com

You'll see lots of similar cases. Have you cleaned out the plenum chamber (the place where the battery is? Also, remove the rubber in the hole under the battery holder so that water can't build up there. Most electrical faults on Passat B5 and B5.5 (ie up to 2005) arise from water ingress into the passenger footwell...
