Excellent presentation from 2011 on tree diseases affecting trees in Britain from Dr. Webber (Principal Pathologist at Forest Research in the FC) with lots of pics of the various types.

One of the major points of the presentation is the increased risk of disease spread associated with the trade in nearly grown trees. Another feature is the massive increase in tree diseases in Britain over the last 10 years.

Dothistroma needle blight seems to be wreaking havoc in commercial Lodgepole pine plantations in Scotland at the moment, with aerial spraying of fungicides being trialed to combat it. It was recorded in NI in 2011 but I haven't seen reference to it in this country.

In the north of Scotland, the spread of needle blight has already resulted in the felling of large areas of commercial woodland
