Generally speaking the hot tap is turned off by a valve in the hot press and the cold side is turned off by a valve under the sink or at the stop cock usually located just outside the boundary wall of the property

You may need to invest in a basin or sink wrench to get up to the nuts

I bought a mixer tap in Homebase and apparently there is a difference between Irish and UK fittings - had to get a plumber to install, who had to make a trip to chadwicks for the right fittings.. beware..
