I've seen in previous threads that some people with hrv have fitted a grease filter to the kitchen extract port.

I'd be grateful if they could say where they got these, and what their experiences have been.

Thanks syd, but the wife isn't convinced about putting one of these on the kitchen ceiling:

    Which one did you use?

i havent one, but ive specified ones for lots of jobs... small commercial really.

I would advise one if you are discharging to a septic tank, they are very very handy to take a washing machine and dishwash off. Youd be surprised at the amount of junk that comes from them.

Do you have a cooker hood ? Feeding into your hrv ... Is there a grease filter or space for a grease filter in that , either that or contact your ducting or Hrv supplier.... The more grease filters near the inlet the better but would have thought it only really necessary over the cooker ...

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply.

Over the cooker we have a recirculating cooker hood. This doesn't extract the air to the outside, but has filters (charcoal etc.) to remove the grease in the air, before pumping that air back into the kitchen.

However I'm a bit concerned that this may not be enough, as the hrv extract port is only about 1.5m horizontally from the cooker, so any grease not captured by the hood will go into the hrv duct.

I had seen that some contributors here (sas, for example?) had put filters over the hrv extract port for that reason, but I was unable to find any further information on these.

I've been away. I'll post a picture of what I've got. I don't know where my supplier got it though. I'm actually waiting on a new set of filters for it.

Mine is about 10ft from the extractor, which is a recycler. The filter in it is "manky" since it was installed 10 months ago i.e. I agree with you whole heartedly, the extractor won't extract enough grease from the cooking steam.

    Hi sas,

Thanks very much for that. Yes I'd be grateful for an image, just to get an idea of what's involved.

Your experience of finding that the filter over the extract port is manky with grease is a wake-up call, and it sounds like this is something that everybody with hrv needs to give some serious thought to.

Is there a dust filter on stale air inlet , will dust ect build up in the ducts anyway( not just kitchen ones) .. Does it even matter as this air is being extracted anyway ...?
Does anyone know why they don't hook the cooker hood directly to hrv..?
As you can guess dont have it installed in my house ...

    Better late than never.

Filter box is 200mm square. Ours is on the wall, not ceiling.

1 year replacement of the filter in that box

Thanks sas, where do you buy the replacement filters?

Directly from my HRV supplier. Who very kindly removed any distinguishing marks from them so that I couldn't determine where they actually came from!

I'll get in touch with my hrv supplier so, and see if they have any idea where these can be got.

    Thanks again anyway.
