I was quite looking forward to him performing in Glasgow next year. He just has a presence which is unexplainable, he is just such a likable character! Whenever he is on the track all eyes turn to him.
We knew it was coming, but it still is sad to see him confirming it.
Well, I wish him all the best in his new business :)

The reason I eat bran flakes every morning :-). Such a humble and likable character, best of luck to him whatever direction he takes.

Definitely one of the all time track greats.
A career and a reputation to be proud of.
Sincerely hope he stays in cycling in some capacity..

Has no one anything bad to say about this guy?
Anything at all? Like "I saw him scowl at a labrador puppy once". Just for a bit of balance?

Unfortunately, I can't add anything untoward myself, I think he's a class act. Good luck to him in his retirement.

He was a class act on the track, and one of the great gentlemen of sport

Is it a fair comment to say that he never faced the real world of professional cycling ?

He could have notched up a few one day classics, a few monuments, a tour de France maybe)

He's not up there with legends like Cav or Bradley , but he is not far behind, and he more of a gentleman than Bradley (less foul language) !

Track sprinters will never make decent endurance racers on the road (not nowadays anyway) - even Cav was an "endurance" rider on the track
