Does anyone know how I would go about installing an aux jack in my 08 passat?

I wanna hook up my iPhone. Preferably that cheapest way!

    Thanks!

    How about an FM Transmitter?

    Some advice here.
Do you intend to DIY it or have an audio guy do it?

You could fit a new radio with a aux input.

I tried an FM transmitter with an iPod and it didn't work well. There are too many stations around the Dublin area to get a frequency that stays clear when travelling across the city.

Do you know what model your radio is? I guess it's something like RCD 300.

I had an 08 passat, and there was an aux jack input at the bottom of the arm rest compartment (or whatever its called, behind the gear stick). Kids were always plugging their bleeding ipods into it and subjecting me to thir music.

I thought it was standard fit !!!!!

Yes it's an rcd 300. I checked in the storage compartment behind the gear stick and there is a small cover where I presume he aux jack should be, but it's not.

Wouldn't trust doing it myself,so would pay someone to do it, but the cheapest option would be the best for me at the moment!

The one with the silver buttons? That's the only version of that radio that plays aux inputs through the cd players, as I understand it.

Tbh, it should be a really easy job. It's been a while since I was in a Passat, but isn't it just a fascia that you have to remove and then you have a few screws? That allows you to slide out of the radio. This video has a different radio, but I'm almost certain the principle is exactly the same. All you do then is plug the unit into the cd port on the rear of the head unit, fish the cable down into the glovebox (or elsewhere if you prefer) and you're done. With these units there's no wiring or anything like that. I'm far from an expert but I learned pretty quickly how to do it just by getting in there and following guides from the net.

Obviously if you're not comfortable don't do it, but when you see how little these people do to take a good chunk of money from you it doesn't seem worth it.

All you do then is plug in whatever device you fancy getting. A few examples:

Something like this which allows iPod control and an aux input - €100

Though if you want iPod and aux, this is a much better piece of gear. This is what's in my own car. - €90-ish

Bog standard aux connection - €50

Cheap and cheerful aux only €40-ish

Another vid, with awful music, if that's your sort of thing.
