    hi,
can anyone tell me where i can get a 1:500 scale map for a planning application?
i'm out of the country and the work that needs to be done is minimal. is it the same as a 1:1000 map just blown up 100%?
as the son of an civil engineer, i just wish i paid more attention when i was younger!

Get your location map, 1:2500 or 1:1000 and work from that. You do know that the content of the site map will need to be fairly detailed.

You'll have to draw the 1:500 map yourself based on the Location Map, and input the detail Muffler refers to above.

Be careful about copyright on the OS Map if you're scanning it and blowing it up as well. Had a friend a couple of years ago who scanned and scaled up a map but didn't tidy it up with his own line types etc.

It was obvious from the Site Plan lodged with the planning application that he had used the OS data, and there was an OS inspection in the local authority. He got a rap on the knuckles from OSI over it ....

You could buy the digital planning pack which will give you an A3 or A4 sized area around the site in question at 1:2500 scale in digital format (dwg or dxf) and which will also be aligned to ITM Grid coordinates. You should be able to use this digital map for planning and Land Registry purposes.

You can select the site area on the OSi Website, and purchase it online.

Much more exact than scanning, no copyright worries, and your drawing is already started for you. Downside is that it's a little more expensive than buying paper maps.

    +1 on this.

Also bear in mind, when buying the digital planning pack, in addition to actually buying/apying for the pack, if you are going to use the digital information to prepare other drawings (e.g. a site layout plan), and you do not have an annual license with OSI, you need to buy a 'temporary license' from OSI - costs around € 14 (in addition to the cost of the planning pack).

    Been there with OSI...rap on the knuckles...have T-shirt! :)

Is this not a site layout plan your referring to? Scale up the 1:1000map and get a sheet of tracing paper, trace main features, add items acturely that you are applying for and those that are existing, with red landholding outline, north point, dimensions, relevant explanation text etc, use check list on planning form And submitt ,
If your not happy to do that, get professional help from eng / arch

i kept clicking and clicking wondering what the hell was going on!

thanks a mil for the info here, it's just for widening an entrance. given the amount of planning application stuff that was around our house when i was younger, it'd be a shame to not be able to at least try it myself. i'll know my limits though.
