Would a 1990 Sierra Sapphire 2.0L GLX Saloon be classed/considered a classic or vintage car?
More importantly, would it be classed as such for tax/insurance/nct purposes?

Thanks. Good to know. I deal with AXA all the time.
What kind of money was the insurance btw?

The tax is painful though especially when I wouldn't be using it as a daily driver.

i had three cars insured for maybe €300 odd, can't really recall.

    I found Axa good btw.

Re the tax - you COULD look at Ford's range of engines and find a 1.3/1.4 out of an old Escort/orion that would mate up to your transmission, and then you just get a garage report tio certify the new engine is 1.3/1.4 and your tax will be reduced :).
Go onto some of the Ford forums for further info. (Sure there's even a new Focus 1.0 with power out now )
I had a 1.4 Escort company runabout and it was a little flyer ;)

MAYBE the 1.6 OHC was slow, but the Zetec or CVH might be different kettles of fish power/torque wise

yes but a 1.6 OHC would be much the same as a 1.3/1.4...and they would be slow compared to a 2 litre...

The 1.8 CVH in the Sierra was almost as bad as the 1.6 Pinto.

OP, I'm assuming that the engine is the I4 8 valve unit, rather than a Pinto. If it is, leave it alone as it's a nice torquey unit. You can also consider a head swap from the I4 16 valve found in Mk5 RS2000, bug-eye Granada and such.

I you're insisting on swapping engines, remember that the 1.8 & 2.0 Zetec engine is based on the CVH so find a CVH Sierra for engine mounts, sump, etc. I'm not too sure if the 1.4 & 1.6 Zetec is based on a CVH or how hard it is to fit as it's not a common swap.

Not sure what variety of 2.0L is in it tbh.
I Won't be downgrading it in any case but the RS2000 head swap sounds inteesting though....tell me more.:)

    There's a 2.0 Twin cam engine - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/carparts/4784605

And the different types / power in 4 cyl Fords
