    Hi,

Anyone have any ideas for places to go in Europe on your own backpacking. It would only be a short trip (7-14 days)

Budget is limited but we'll say around €1200. Would enjoy anything as long as it doesn't involve sitting on a beach toasting.

Ideally I'd like to go to hostels so as to mingle. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Inter rail is the way to go.

Sounds great! Make a journey of it :)
Some great trips you could do in that timeframe and budget would be Lisbon -> Barcelona, Dubrovnik -> Athens or Riga -> Berlin

I think a combination of low cost airlines, trains and buses could make for a great trip given your time frame.
Last year I did Brussels, Munich and Stockholm all in one week, flying between each destination using Ryanair. I was able to tick 3 countries off my bucklist quite cheaply! Although the amount of travel/effort was too much.

Skyscanner.ie is your friend when it comes to finding the cheapest flights. Megabus, Eurolines and Orangeways are descent low cost ways to bus between cities,

My favourite city in Europe is Barcelona, its got the sun, the city and a great backpacker scene. Combine that with a couple other cities and I think you'll have a great trip.

If you need any specific advice, hostel recommendations, feel free to ask.
