Sounds like this could be a good lens. I don't have any Sigma lens', are they a worthy alternative to Canon/Nikon? Recently I considered getting the Sigma 35mm f1.4 but chicken out and opted for the Canon 30mm f2.0 instead.

Seems like an interesting lens, that is a nice focal lenght to have covered by 1.8. wonder how it will perform optically, Pity its limited to crop frame cameras.

That's what I have and given my interest in low light, concert photography this may be a must have once I see reviews and price.

Most non branded lens in the past have cheaper but slightly lesser quality(although some admirably performing) alternatives to the Canon and Nikon equivelants. Lately a lot of them have really upped their game. The Sigma 50 1.4 wipes the floor with the Canon. Even more impressively the new Sigma 35 1.4 out performs the Canon 35 1.4 L lens in almost every area. Similarly the Tamron 24-70 2.8 by all accounts beats the old Canon 24-70 2.8 L lens in most regards but falls short of the newer Canon 24-70 2.8 II.

In summary there is no hard rule of third party manufacturers being better or worse. The newer lens seem to offer similar if not better performance for a reduced price but some of their cheaper alternatives are quite awful too. In each case you'll just have to read up or possible rent out a copy of each and see for yourself.

Would agree with Splinters, I bought the Sigma 50mm over the Canon and only recently bought the Sigma 35mm and it's a quality piece of glass.

Doubt it will take off, as it's just for the crop body.

no crop body owner is going to spend more for a lens than the body, it looks like it's coming in at €1299,

1.8 all through sounds great tho

I just don't see it myself, not at that price point anyway.

Been asking around in few shops.it seems that Sigma keeping lips sealed about the price but everyone agrees it will be between 1000-1200e...bit expensive but 1.8 is tempting....

So the reviews are looking really good for this and it's not a bad price... in the US. $799 vs €999 in Europe. That's going to be €390 in the difference once you convert USD to EUR. Nuts.

It's going to be huge for video I'd say.
