Phishing or Another type of Scam??

    was asked to look into this by the manager of our golf club. It started with an email looking for price etc which the manager replied to. Then he got this back....


    Dear Sir,
    Thanks for your email, the price is okay for us.
    To make sure that everything is arranged before our arrival, we wish to make advance payment to confirm the booking. I want to tell you that we will make arrangement with a logistic agency who will book our Flights and provide us with other logistic needs during our stay.
    Also, the payment will come from our sponsors. Already they have issued out a certified European Bank cheque of £7,750 to cover all our traveling expenses which includes golf services, flight, accommodation and other logistics during our stay,since our company policy would not allow cash payment to be made at the reception.
    Since you are the first booking we have confirmed, We wish to issue this cheque payment to you. Upon receipt of the bank check, you are required to deposit it on your account in order to confirm the cash on your account.
    Deduct the cost of your golf services, tax and bank fees and wait for my directives as regards to the remaining balance because it will be used to pay the logistic firm for their services. I hope you understand?

    Kindly provide the following information for the cheque payment to be sent to you.

    * YOUR FULL NAME (As it should appear on the cheque)
    * YOUR POSTAL ADDRESS(where to send the cheque)
    * CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBERS
    * ALTERNATE EMAIL


    Anyone heard of anything like this before? Sounds very dodgy to me and I think he should stay clear of it.
