Folks, was driving home from work today and I noticed a couple of signs around the place for a broadband company called "UISSP.IE"... This was around the Carlow area, and its the first time I've seen the signs..

Does anyone know anything about them? I need a new BB provide as Eircom sucks cos I'm too far from the exchange, Imagine can't get a signal to me, and Sky are as useful as Eircom...

First off their website would turn me away, looks like there was no effort at all and they're also using paypal for payment. :S

Yeah, bit of a whack of dodgy off the website.. I'll have to try Regional Broadband or Aptus..

130 EUR activation fee and then monthly after that; I'd guess some version of wireless based service so the question would be were their masts are located (and I agree their webpage is not very well done or informative) with the domain active as of 12th of June last year registered for a business.

Why would you want to know where there masts are? What is so bad about the web site. I dont see anything wrong with it

And also what difference does it make what date the business was set up, its set up and running now and Im getting the service its alot better than eircom digi web and the rest. It would b no harm if yee would stop slating the company. If they gave you poor service I would say fair enough

Mast location would be crucial.. If the masts are too far away, then ill get poor line of sight and it'd be no different to the poor wired broadband.. Or the masts could be located on the far side of town, which would mean they can't hit me(that's the issue with Imagine)..

There's no info about the company, how they back haul they're network or anything.. Even their 'Register Details' section doesn't let you register your details..! The order form section... Has no order form..! I'd be hesitant to pay €130 installation fee for it to be terrible and then not be able to get my money back..

Are they around long? Do you know if many others use it too?

Would you not just pick up the phone and ring them like any normal person, I got a signal test done at first and it was free. Its a fella doing it on his own with no help from anyone, he's not that long up and running. Id imagine its hard to get a business running off your own back. We should be supporting local people trying to make a life for them selfs, think about it this way he could be creating jobs to get the carlow people off the dole isnt that what we need these days.

you might want to look at register details again, it does let you register

I won't bother, I only asked a simple question, I don't live in the Carlow area but am interested in wireless providers. You're not answering my question which in itself is suspect, as is you coming out of nowhere bigging them up.

u started the thread or have ya a bit of memory loss. answer what question???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Look again :D

    ColmH81 started the thread

Questions were how long you had it and if you know if there are many others using it at the same time?

When WiMAX came to my local town, people were raving about it, then as they signed more people up things got worse.

    Are you being sarcastic here?

That website is atrocious. Looks like somebody did it with *gasp* FrontPage.

This is their shop window, and Im afraid it screams dingy-old-back-street-run-down-dive-of-a-shop to me. It's the little things that count, it's a trust and confidence thing.

Cece13, do you by any chance have a vested interest in this company? You seem very vehement in your defence of them.

Had the did a speed test, came back at 6.23Mb.. Makes me happy.. Their contention ratio is 10:1, and said it'll never go above that..

Gonna give them a whirl.. Will have to keep the eircom line for the phone, but they said in the future they might..

He'd better be prepared to go out of business if he's providing wireless broadband at 10:1 then.

Was thinking the same, but we're in a very rural area, so there's not a huge amount of houses..

But sure will give it a whirl and see how it goes..
