    Hi

Just wondering if anyone could tell me an approx price to convert my attic, Nothing fancy just somewhere I can store stuff. What we need is a floor and all the beams to be moved so you dont kill yourself ducking under some of them and climbing over the rest. dont need any windows or stairs maybe a basic light and a plug ? its a tiny attic but would be so handy to have it converted as it looks like we are going to be here for the next 30 years. Thanks a mill ( Pics attached)

To be honest you'd be best off just flooring a section of it for storage, fit a light/socket and maybe a pull down stairs.

I wouldn't go cutting beams/trusses if its just for storage. You would only do the structural work if there was a room going up there.

Thanks Dublin Dilbert, Its just really awkward up there and as our place is so tiny I was thinking of having it as a proper storage room to put shelves and stuff up there as there is absolutly no storage in the apartment at all or room to to put any in.

It will be a few grand alone just for the rsj's to hold the roof up when you remove part of the roof. A lot of hassle if your putting a proper room up there

You dont need rsj's as these support walls, the thruses you see an an integeral part of the design of your appartment.
If you want to get rid of these you would have
remove the roof and re do a support structure which would be load bearing, thats planning permission etc...& 0000e's.
However its easy to install a drop down stairs 100- 150 to buy, flooring 10e pack, light & socket 50e, all from b&q.
ALWAYS KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS as there could be electric cables or plumbing on or through the joists you are thinking of flooring.
There are companies who wilk knock that together in a day for you.

If you are in a top floor apartment you may not have the right to make changes to the structure / support of the roof. If people notice the work going on you may have to stop it and revert to original support design so be careful as you may end up doing the work only to have to remove it.
In addition there may be liability if problems occur with the roof in the future and they realise you changed the structure.
Basically if you don’t own the building don’t make these changes.

This is definitely a no no.

    Reasons.

If you own the apt then you will need to get permission from the rest of the owner residents.
This will entail the owners committee running to Solicitors and Architects for
    help and advice.
You will need to get advice from your own Solicitor as to what restrictions are on Owners. It's unlikely there's anything granting permission to Penthouse owners allowing to alter the Roof.
You would also need PP and rigid Council inspections as it's a communal building.

Can you begin to see the Fees and Money totting up.

Take the advice given and just put a stairs and sheet it out for storage.

Then start saving for the new home with plenty of space.

There is a huge group of cables running over the joists, So I have put the fooring down in patches where I can. Thank you very much for your advice
