    Hi,
Perhaps you can help. I have two questions regarding mobile speed/safety vans. If someone is issued a speeding ticket, in the post, from a mobile speed camera van:

    1) Must the location of the van, where the offence took place and was recorded, be one of those locations detailed in http://www.garda.ie/gosafe.htm

    2) Are the Safety Vans required to be 'marked' i.e. with signage displaying they are road safety vans.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    D

Only the GoSafe vans are marked and are on the website, the Garda vans are unmarked and can be located anywhere/anytime.

    1) No, they are only for go safe vans garda vans can go anywhere, or from my experience they go anywhere they like

    2) Only go safe vans are marked, garda vans are usually big white transit vans with little red lights on top at the sides

Sorry to hear you were stung

By the sounds of it you could have been caught by a Garda speed van rather than a GoSafe van. The Garda vans don't have the iluminous decals on them and often operate outside of the locations marked on the map for GoSafe vans

If it was a GoSafe van these need to be clearly marked, I'm not sure about whether or not they can operate outside the areas on the map

There are some unmarked GoSafe vans. These are not used for enforcement, but for survey purposes only e.g. collecting data on traffic speed as part of ongoing reviews of new/existing enforcement zones, so I guess you could see them outside the current enforcement zones.
