weird black "floaters"

Hey guys, I have very weak eyesight, +10 more or less, but in the last few years have been experiencing this weird sort of floaters. I'm not at risk for retinal detachment because I'm very longsighted, not short sighted. What I have seen of floaters doesn't at all mirror what I experience.

I see shadows like flames, or like a keilidoscope (spelling dubious) in my main line of vision. It's not that obstructive but I don't recall experiencing it when younger. I only see it in bright light. Also when I leave work, having been in a room with normal lighting all day, my eyes sometimes weep with the sunlight.

Three years ago I experienced all this only worse, light HURT, and was treated in the Mater for an odd eye infection where my virtious humor had become cloudy. They did not know why, so kept bringing me back to see. I owe the Eye and Ear Hospital some money, and that's my local eye unit now, so am wary to go back again, even though last time this happened it was easily treated with steroid eyedrops.

Just wondering if anyone else experiences the flame-like shadows in bright light and if there is a name or explanation for it? Every time I mentioned it the doctors just jump to floaters, but this isn't anything much like floaters.

Why do you mention detachment ? being longsighted is not going to stop this happening.

those symptoms sound a bit like a detachment, but infection is just as serious.

Sounds very similar to what I see at times which I put down as a mild case of floaters. I go for regular eye checks and there's never been any major worry about them.

I've been told I am not at any risk of retinal detachment.

You are LESS of a risk of retinal detachment to those with a high minus prescription. It's not a case that you can't have one.

That said flashing lights like lightening including when your eyes are closed is more of an indication.

There are plenty of opticians doing free eye exams,or use your Prsi cover, just get it checked is highly advisable.

I've been told I am not at risk of retinal detachment, and these symptoms are not typically experienced with retinal detachment.

Just wondering if anyone experiences the same photosensitivity or whether I'm over reacting.

Bit of a stretch to diagnose retinal detachment over the web.

Optical migraines? I used to get them, sounds very like them. It doesn't necessarily have a headache either.

You should probably get that checked out properly.
