Sky Magic Eye without analogue tuner

    Hi all,

Just bought a new TV for the bedroom and a magic eye for connecting it to the Sky box in the sitting room.

Unfortunately, it turns out that the new TV doesn't have an analogue tuner and therefore won't work with the magic eye that I bought.

I have found a link to what I seem to need but I would rather not buy it online from a place I know nothing about.

    http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/Global_DTA.htm

Has anyone seen these in a bricks and mortar shop, or will I need to buy online?

Is it worthwhile trying somewhere like Curry's?

These are only a brand new product out on the market and will not be available in poor tv stores like curry that no nothing about tv distribution.. The company you linked to have been in business for yrs and highly reputable.

However you can also buy directly from the manufacturer here seems to be slightly cheaper.

SatCure are a legit company, they've been offering repair kits for STBs for many years. I've never had to but I wouldn't feel iffy about ordering from them if it came to it.

I've purchased from them many times, no problems to date.

I would bring the TV back and say it will not work for your needs and get something else. Another option would be a cheap old TV secondhand.

    Thanks zg3409, but not possible.

I bought the TV a good while before the magic eye, so no receipts etc. Also, it's a nice tidy little TV mounted on a bedroom wall and fits the purpose in every other way so I think I'll stick to what I have and just buy the digital link.

    Thanks everyone for their input.

Depending on the TV and the wall bracket it's mounted to, it might be worth checking how convenient it would be to plug a Scart lead into it. Some/many TV's have stupidly put the Scart socket facing out the back, so if the TV was mounted flat to a wall, there'd be no room for the Scart plug to protrude (or usually the Coax plug either).

    Thanks byte,

It's on a hinged bracket so sits out from the wall so shouldn't be any major issues.

The magic eye will work just fine. Its function is to send the remote signals back to the Digibox.

Unfortunately, as you say, you won't be able to watch any programmes without the DTA.

Worth mentioning, an alternative to the Global DTA is the Triax Unilink. Seems to cost more though.
