Signing on after finishing college

Have heard that you are able to claim JSA from the date of your final summer exam - in fact I have friends who signed on for the summer despite starting post-grad studies in Sept.

Is this correct and does it mean I should apply in advance? Every intention of finding work ASAP afterwards but will have to sustain myself for the jobseeking period.

Surely somebody knows the answer to this...

You can sign on as soon as you finish exams, you need to get a letter from the college saying you finished your degree, on x date, and that is the end of your period in college with them.

What happens if you end up failing an exam and having repeats in the summer?

Dont know to be honest. You should contact citizens info and they should be able to provide you with all that advice.

Doesnt matter it you have repeats you're no longer full time student. Sign on after your last exam as from then you're available and looking for full time work.

I was able to sign on from the date of my last exam in May, even though I ended up having to repeat in August. Although I was on a SW payment while attending - I am not sure if they would let you sign on if they thought you would be going back to college the following September :P
