Anybody here been fitted at the Titleist fitting center in Carton house recently? Is it possible to book direct or do you have to go through your local pro? Ive tried calling the GUI academy there but they wont take a booking....

    Cheers,

    Yeah, local pro.

I got it done last year. I'm not a big believer in it, but for the sake of a (relativiely) small added cost to a whole set, tried it out. Once you want Titleist clubs, it's a fine way to go. Pretty interesting thing to do, but I'd take it or leave it to be honest.

Resurrecting my own thread here. Went to Carton today for a driver fitting and was very impressed, have been fitted previously in Fore golf and this is every bit as professional.

I was emailed the spec immediately after the session and have been pricing the club online & at some "bricks n mortar" stores.
Has anybody ever used http://www.golfbuyitonline.com/ to buy custom clubs? Or can ye recommend a similar site?

    Cheers Lads.

Snap, I was there today also and tried a few combo's till I got the correct set up for me. Best distance, launch angle, spin, accuracy and even tried 1/2" longer which was less accurate and distance than the standard 45".
Mark was very helpful and was not pushing anything and had genuine interest in what was best for me with offers of further help if needed in the future, top bloke.

Call into the bricks and mortar and ask for their best price and see if you can get something off, I did and bought almost straight away as they had my spec in stock still in its wrapper.

Small world eh! I found Mark great, spent just over an hour going through a variety of options and explained all the numbers in simple terms...
I've been pricing around this afternoon and the website I listed above has my spec for €244 delivered (they've 20% off this weekend) Where did you buy if you don't mind my asking?

Well done that was a brilliant price, needless to say i spent more than that in Dublin but I have it now and I am ready to use it tomorrow morning.

You can get custom clubs here too, http://www.golfstoreeurope.com/, I have not used it but it looks good and is based in Ireland so postage might be cheaper. Might be worth a comparison at least.

Thanks yana, I checked them out earlier alright, they're about €50 dearer than golfbuyitonline. I've read a few reviews of the site on some UK forums and all signs indicate its legit so I'm going to pull the trigger here!

Out of interest how much was the fitting? Going to get a driver fitting in the next month or two.

€50, very professional set-up. Spent over an hour with me. Having the specs yourself after the session means you're free to shop around for the best bargain afterwards :)

I was a bit more fortunate in that I got the fitting, over an hour also, for free as I had bought a set of AP2's a few weeks earlier in my preferred shop, which I guess makes up for the better online price. I got 20% also off the irons at the time.
I would also be interested Benny in how your online experience goes with these guys as they seem to have some very good prices?
Best of luck with your New Driver when you get it.

Got fitted myself by Titleist last year. I know Mark from his junior golf days ( and some boozy nights :D ) and he is a serious professional in what he does, good attention to detail. Not half bad at coaching either ;) I was in the market for a new driver and he gave me word of a fella coming down to my club to do a fitting.

Damn forget the guys name, had a Northern Irish accent I "think". But he was really good. Weather was terrible but he tried and tried and then gave me a good recommendation. He also gave me my specs for 3 woods and rescues, which I picked up this year.

It is worth doing if you don't tinker with your swing often, and most common your swing is the same for most shots. I wouldnt spend big money again without getting fitted. It costs peanuts these days considering the benefits.

Ya, very impressed with Mark. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience tbh... Club is on order now, should have it early next week...

    What did you pick up?

913D2 10.5 Deg in the A1 (neutral) setting with a 45" Diamana Blue 72g Stiff Shaft

Setup seemed to work well for me with approx 2900 - 3400 rpm of spin, 100mph swing speed and ball speed of 144 mph.

Hopefully it carries through to the course now, club is due to arrive tomorrow so she'll get a baptism of fire in the club singles on Saturday morning!

As a matter of interest what were you carrying the ball according to the screen?
I was getting 215 on average with a nice mid flight and didn't notice speed or spin and got a 913 D2 9.5 Blue Stiff 62G and I reckon I could maybe get an extra 10 yrds or so when fully fit, very accurate though which I really want as I'd rather play from the short grass.

I was averaging 235-240 yards of carry (making me one of the shortest hitters on boards) :) , one topped out at 255. Like yourself, my main goal was in improving dispersion which was definitely the case when compared with my old driver....

I know what you mean about the claims of big hitters but for some strange reason I never seem to be far from them in reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

I think there is always some confusion around here based on "carry" and "final length". Like when I am talking about driver length, I'm talking about final length.

235-240yards of carry is pretty good, and probably higher then the average around here to be honest. In good conditions depending on your flight, that probably finishes on the fairway about 280.

Out of interest benny how come you didnt go back to foregolf? since you were there before and they would have your specs.

Thinking of getting a full custom fit cant decide between the 2!(NEVER HAD A PROPER FIT BEFORE)
although i like Tiltest I a fan of TM and would preper more options although I have heard the D2 is a solid driver and 1 of the best around

D2 is a great driver - I think it may be a little shorter than others - but still great control .

Yeah, my 910 D2 is definitely slightly shorter & slightly heavier in the head, but control is very good & you have 16 settings on it which is plenty to work with. I know TM have more settings than that alright & are definitely a lighter club, so really down to what your preference is in relation to club weight

    Hey Benny,

Do they give you the option of trying out some of the higher end shafts or do they first check your budget?

    Cheers...

No, budget doesn't come into it. You hit your own driver a few times to get a baseline reading on what they are trying to "improve" on, and the fitter works from there, using his knowledge or expertise. Usually they start with the stock shafts, and its fairly common for one of those to be a good fit, especially as the 913 stock shafts with Titleist are so good. If they don't work there are plenty of other very good shafts available at no extra cost. Its no big deal for them to let you try a €300 shaft for sh1ts and giggles, but chances are that you wouldn't need one to get optimum numbers. Depends to an extent on whether an extra half a yard is worth €200 !:)

A good shaft is only a good shaft if it works for you. I went to a Taylor Made fitting centre in the States a couple of weeks ago and got fitted for the SLDR and it turned out that the stock shaft was good for me, or at least gave me good enough numbers that I didn't actually need an upgrade to the exotic stuff. I had similar numbers to the previous poster, SS 99-102, but, surprisingly, the stock shaft wasn't spinning it too much.

I had been fit previously for a set of clubs on Fore Golf, I have previously posted here in their defense but was having raised a complaint with them following delivery of a club I was left very unimpressed with how it was dealt with & won't be returning. Also I had gotten rave reviews about the setup at Carton house from a mate & decided to give it a go.

In my case he identified some issues with my existing setup and set about resolving them using the stock shafts, which as others have noted is very comprehensive. My numbers improved drastically with a stock setup so there was no requirement to move beyond it....

Its a number of months on now and I am still loving the driver. Its a smashing club and honestly has changed my game. I've never been able to consistently hit a driver as good as this on and hopefully it will remain in my bag for a while to come....

Just because they cost and extra E200 doesn't mean they're harder to hit, does it?

For instance, on the site Benny Cake mentioned, the Titleist Diamana Ilima61 comes at no extra cost while the Mitsubishi Diamana Ilima60 is an extra GBP170

The real shaft should be more consistent

Must admin, I hate trying to figure out shafts, very confusing and lots of attempts to deceive people

I'm replacing my woods so checking out my options. McGuirks have a free fitting in Stepaside coming up so I'll see how that goes

No, the cost doesn't necessarily mean they're harder to hit - weight, stiffness and kickpoint will decide that.

As for the real shaft being more consistent, meh, possibly, but I don't think there's a whole lot in it to be honest. I used to be convinced there was a huge difference, but I think stock shafts are improving all the time. If I remember correctly there was one of the Titleist shafts recently where the "made for" version was actually stiffer than the "real deal" version - might have been one of the Voodoo shafts from 2/3 years ago, can't remember exactly.

Of course if you look at reviews on a site like golfwrx where everyone has a 125mph swing speed and hits it 310 :), those guys probably need shaft upgrades alright !

I don't think a major manufacturer would get away with putting complete rubbish in their clubheads nowadays, customers will turn to competitors if they did. That's not to say stock shafts are the best of the best, of course there's a compromise with cost v quality, but whether we amateurs could tell the difference - who knows. No harm in trying at a fitting.

I know for sure that the 5(?) stock shafts in the 913 driver are all "real deal", so you'd be very unlucky for one of them not to fit. The Diamana Blue option is a fantastic shaft for a stock option, I think its $275 dollars to buy on its own or something like that.

There's a Ping fitting soon with McGuirks in Stepaside, might be worth trying out too. The Ping stock shaft in the G25 is a very good quality - UST make it and its pretty much the same as their VTS Silver.
