DPF Removal

    Hi All,
I was just quoted €2600 to have the DPF on my Mazda 6 replaced by a Mazda dealer. That's a crazy amount of money.
I'm looking into getting it removed and am wondering if anyone has every had this done on a Mazda and if so ho has it been running?

I'm looking at Coby's Tyre & Auto Services on the Naas road as they are open on Saturdays. Has anyone ever used them?

    Thanks
    Conor

€2600??? Jesus lord on a bicycle.... I'd be removing it but also looking at why it went in the first place, you sure you're doing the miles for the newer diesels OP?

    Thanks for the reply,
Ya, I nearly choked when they said €2600.
I do a lot of mileage, well enough to warrant a diesel anyway. About 25000 kms a year and it's mainly motorway. At least twice a month I drive from Cork to Dublin and back at 120 - 130 km/ph. Enough to start the regen process at least.

The dealer said they think in the last service the mechanic failed to reset the oil level and it's caused it. I've had the car serviced religiously every 12500 kms as per the book. I'm going mad as I ensure I take good car of the car so I won't have these problems. If I skipped a service I'd only have myself to blame.

It wasn't a Mazda dealer who did the service so I suppose they might have skipped it but I can't prove anything.

Take it to an indy and see what they say.

We had a similar quote from a Mazda dealer on a Mazda 3. Ended up getting it sorted by our local indy for around €700 - that was cleaning out the DPF and replacing the eloys fluid.

Car ran fine for another 30,000km after that and was fine when I drove it yesterday.

    Is yours a 2.2 or a 2.0 Mazda6?

    it's a 2.0 143 bhp model
Excuse my ignorance but what's an indy?

    indy = independent garage

yeah, €700 we paid for an opel antara to have its dpf removed.

    Sorry for your troubles.

That engine is notorious for DPF issues / total failures. Sounds like you've done well to get as long out of it as you have.

    Thanks MidlandsM,
Any problems with the NCT or with insurance? I'm worried about the problems I could face with insurance as the ECU has been modified.
By the way, who did your DPF removal? If I go down that line, which I probably will, I want to make sure it's someone who has done a good few before mine

Has anyone had any problems with insurance or the NCT after getting the DPF removed and the ECU reprogrammed?
What happens if I need to get my exhaust replaced in the future or worse if the ECU fails for whatever reason?

    Thanks

AFAIK, there's a lad in Clare that'll recondition you're DPF for around €200. I found a link to the website on this forum a while back..

Has anyone every used Autotune.ie? I've got a quote from them to basically hollow out the DPF and reprogram the ECU for 550. They said it's better then removing the DPF altogether as during a visual inspection by the NCT or whoever it looks like the DPF is still there.

Would love to hear from anyone who has had it removed and been through the NCT

Ive sent a few cars Cobys way.He removes the dpf and reprogrammes the ecu to make it think that alls well with the dpf.

The cars Ive sent to him have never had an issue again after he did them but just one thing to note that if you ever need software upgraded in a main dealer after the ecu has been reprogrammed to remove the dpf the new software will overwrite the software the Indy has put on it to remove the dpf and you may have to go back to them to get it "removed" again.

Its a lot cheaper than replacing a dpf every 100k or so.

If I ever bought a car with a dpf the first thing Id do is get it removed and reprogrammed.

It doesn't affect the nct as the nct is a smoke test and not an emissions one on diesels.

    Thanks Hellrazer,
I forgot about the main dealers updating the software. I'll have to make sure I let them know not to do that in the future

Got some great advice from the people here. Makes me feel a lot better about getting it removed now.

    Thanks all

    Hi All,
I got the DPF removed by auto-tune.ie. I've only done a few miles since but it feels great. Once I've done a bit of motorway miles I'll update this and let ye know how it's going.
I've got the NCT soon too so here's hoping it passes

    Thanks

How is the car going for you now after you've done a few months driving it?

I'm considering getting it done on my own car.
