Recording for Soundcloud on a Mac

    Hey folks,

I want to record guitar and voice tracks to upload to Soundcloud. I have access to a Mac which has Garageband on it, but I'm not sure the files will be compatible if I record using that programme. Does anyone know if Garageband will do the job or whether there is a better programme to go with?

Also, does anyone have any experience of recording directly to Soundcloud, and if so what were the results like and do I need anything special to get started? I'm new to this and I haven't a clue.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Hi Danco,

Garageband will mix down your recordings to MP3 which is the defacto standard for everything, Soundcloud included.

If you can get your head around Logic for Mac it would be a better platform in the long run but folk have achieved great things with humble Garageband.

That's excellent, thanks for the response. Once I know I can get mp3 out of Garageband that'll do me fine. The .band suffix was confusing me. I just want to record some demos so the guitar and voice will be on the same track, nothing too complicated.

Cheers for the tip on Logic too, I might look into that later on, but by the sounds of it Garageband ticks the boxes I need.

    Cheers Thomas,
    Danco
