Haven't a dual boot, but boot off usb occasionally, once uefi is disabled in the BIOS, it's painless.

Depends on the linux distro too, and the computer in question, some Samsungs are bricked by trying to install linux by disabling secure boot/efi. Be careful.
Read here, not sure about other distros, but Linux Mint is essentially Ubuntu, as are many others.

I dual boot two laptops, but they are both pre-UEFI, so no problems.

I would probably use Ubuntu as they have some support for uefi .

Its a dell I bought ,so could I wipe all partitions and install win 7

and Linux . Or maybe get rid of win 8 and just use ubuntu .

Don`t ya just love microsoft .

Ubuntu has UEFI support, but recommend 64 bit, but that should be the norm with newer computers anyway.
    Microsoft?? Who are they?

Good job. Which version did you use? 12.04.2 LTS or the latest 13.04?

12.10 I went it ,was a bit wary of 13.04 beta with all the uefi horror stories .

But I will probably install 13.04 when it gets its official release next week .

Would Ubuntu still install on 'puters w/o UEFI?

    Yep.

Both my computers are pre-UEFI (circa 2009) and I am running Linux Mint 13 KDE alongside Vista on one with Linux Mint Debian and Ubuntu 12.04.2 on the other.
I will wait until next April when the next long term support versions are released, and that should see out the life of both (long term support is 5 years)
Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17.
LMDE is rolling support, so no re-installs there.

UEFI isn't adopted in a uniform manner so like it depends on the computer.

I tried to Dual Boot Win8 with both Ubuntu 12.10 and OpenSUSE 12.2 on a new HP Pavillion G6. NO JOY.

It took a lot of pain too, apparently it is possible, but it was more work than I wanted to do.
But a few folks in work have it working on ThinkPads with Ubuntu. And apparently it worked pretty well.

Got a new Acer Aspire V5-171 the other week and discovered that it is impossible to disable Secure Boot in UEFI mode on it, which is something they're really not supposed to do! Ended up just switching to legacy BIOS mode and nuking Windows 8 off it. No great loss tbh.

That's the way to do it, well done!
