My 2 back tyres need replacing but dont have the money and a friend of mine had these lying out in his shed for over a year and im wondering would these be ok to use or just get rid of them. My car is an audi but these are on a merc alloy but the sizes are very similar. My tryes are 18inch and 235 and these are 225 18 inch. Ive noticed that theres a few cracks in them but would this be an issue when they are blown up. I checked teh depth and one is 7mm and the other is 5.8. Just to make a note, ill only be using these untill i can afford new tyres in a few months.

Don't use the one with the cracks. Tyre has gone hard, past it's best, cracked to the casing and if used could potentially blow out

Burn it off, go drifting but don't use it on a public road

They don't look promising at all. I'd clean them of the mud with a bit of water, the cracks might just be in the mud - but I'm not inclined to think so. It looks like the rubber went hard.

Other than that, the one on the left doesn't look like it has any thread left at all - how did you measure 5.8 mm?

The size shouldn't be a problem, but these look in very bad condition...

Not trying to sound arrogant, but you can put as much money into a car that you please but the only thing stopping you from hitting something is the few square inches touching the road. Find the money to properly replace them, even go as far as 'slightly worn' at a tyre fitters. No driver skill in the world can combat a poor tyre and the saving you make using your mates could literally cost you (or whoever is in the car) a life.
