Pike (was - Unknown Fish)

    Any ideas on this? Doesn't seem to match any of the fish that should be in the Grand Canal. It was a big big fish.

    The fish could be a mullet striped are what I notice

    Without seeing the head, my first guess would be a pike? And if you're not near the bottom end of the canal I'd be 100% sure thats what it is. It seems to have the long body for it, and the pattern on its sides in the first pic fit for a pike too

    The head wouldn't come up unfortunately. It was west of Tullamore.

    Def not mullet then, sorry was thinking Dublin. Prob is a Pike and lost colour due to rotting. The local wildlife will have a meal

    Ah yeah, it is a pike! The colouration in the top pic might look slightly different to *some* pics or drawings of pike you'll see, but thats just natural variation in fish of different sizes and slightly different habitats.

    Colours do change for different rivers/lakes. Used to fish Lough Funshinagh when kids the pike there were a bright green while in lough ree they were not a vivid.
