Dealer selling massively clocked elderly vehicle... What would you do?

I'm sure it's not a new situation to anyone here, but when you check the history of the vehicle you're about to buy and find the "Single owner, 85,000 miles" item did 7 years as a taxi in Belfast, and exceeded 80,000 miles in the first 5 years of its life (8 years ago since it was recorded as 80,000 and change)...

Do you just extract your deposit and walk away, or would anyone else be inclined to give "the authorities" a nudge, or even just name and shame?

Absolutely charming bloke, super friendly, helpful and encouraging etc (That's what he's paid for I guess), so some poor sap is going to take this lemon off him and suffer for it...

I would report it to donedeal or carzone if its for sale on either.

The most they will do is take the ad down, if that. Let the Gardai know, show them your proof, presuming it's a Motorcheck report or similar and let them deal with it. Even still they can't do much as clocking in itself is not illegal, it's the mirepresentation part of it that is.

No offence committed until the clocked car is actually sold with mis-description :eek:n so no offence committed until somebody lays their money out, hence lack of action by authorities , ie innocent til proven guilty. It's a bit like being procesuted for driving a Ferrari because it might break the speed limit.

so deposit back is good result and move on
