Tonight on RTE's Consumer Show, a representstive from Dublin City Council said:

DCC appeals officer direct quote (thanks to the power of pause/rewind TV)

: "Dublin City Council takes a very constructive approach toward its parking enforcement regime and at one level I'm the soft part of that- if people make appeals, I'm going to be sympathetic, reasonably sympathetic"

So guys, those with clamping fines in Dublin City, away ya go. Dublin City Council will be sympathetic to you. :D

They'll be sympathetic if there is a valid reason. The appeals guy was on the radio during the week about this too.

He said that if you bought a ticket and failed to display it properly, he would look to refund half the fine, as it is 'pay AND display'. Another tip that came in handy for me was that if a meter is out of order, you can ring the freefone number on the meter and just give them the four digit code of the machine. They then take your vehicle details and ask how long you wish to park for....this parking is then free of charge. I just got the two hours but it saved me €5.80 :D

+1 There is a difference between being 'sympathetic' where there is a valid case/excuse and granting a blanket amnesty.

I get really annoyed when people (incl. Talk to Joe) rant about the ticket 'blowing off the dash' and they get clamped. If that type of person can't be clamped then they might as well not bother. Check your ticket after you shut the car door.

Some tickets out there are v flimsy- the slightest breeze and they could fall off the dash- not so much DCC but other districts outside of Dublin can be very bad.

Is it really that hard to check that the ticket's still visible before walking away? I don't think 'sympathetic' is going to cover that kind of stupid.

I had to smile when the man who was clamped and appeared to have a genuine case for appealing. He reckoned that appealing would take up too much of his time and not worth €80. I thought it was 2005 again:rolleyes:

Yes. That didn't come accross at all well.
