Beer on draught in pubs?

I had been drinking Fosters in the pub as it is the cheapest, but found i was drinking a lot more that i normally would, subsequently i found out it is only 4% ABV, so in reality it was a false saving of money as i was drinking more.(and it only tastes ok after a couple).
Just seen with the launch of Molson Canadian that it is only 4% ABV, if i was getting beer in the off licence i would go no where near a beer that strength, as i find you have to either drink it very fast or a lot of it to get drunk.
I did a bit of searching on the internet to find the alcohol content of beer on draught in irish pubs and i did not find much, its easy to see when you buy cans or bottles in the off licence but i cant find anything about draught beer in irish pubs.
Can anyone say with certainty the alcohol % of the beer we get in pubs?

Very recent thread on this here. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056926222

The short answer is that nearly every draught lager is 4.3% in Ireland with Guinness and Smithwicks slightly weaker. If you want more alcohol per pint you're going to need to start looking for craft beer pubs where 4.3% is the lower end of the scale.

I always imagined that the percentage of alcohol on draught was the same as the percentage in the bottle. Why would you want to get drunk anyway?

5% in the states but both are 4.3% in Ireland.

In the UK they are. Their beer on the market here is around 4% ABV.

It is very hard to find to find a decent draught lager in most pubs. If you are in Dublin you should be able to find pubs which have a decent choice. Some Hotel bars carry non -diago beers, I have had Tiger and peroni on draught in one lately.

But bottles can vary, especially these days with all the UK & EU market stuff.

My eurospar has 4.3 & 5% heineken alongside each other. I have seen 3.8% carlsberg alongside 4.3% too.

Most main brand kegs here will be of irish origin or intended for our market. So heineken/bud/carlsberg is 4.3, guinness 4.2, smithwicks 3.8.

I suppose there is nothing to stop pubs importing lower % kegs intended for other markets, could be cheaper. Like how the aviva stadium were going to import guinness from the UK since hte wholesale price is much lower there (which was actually made here)
