I got a missed call from a company today that I had applied for, no voice message left. There was 3 missed calls in total all within 1 hour (I dont have access to my phone when im in college).

The number was to a switchboard (its a very large company), so I cant actually contact the exact person that was calling me. Is there any point in calling the head office and talking to a receptionist to track down who called or will I just hope they call back again? How annoying that I missed it :(

If you have the name of the person who called, then drop them an e-mail, apologising for the fact you'd missed the call, and letting them know the best time to call you. Or you can ask when is the best time you can call.

I dont have the name of the person, they left no voicemail at all.

Call them, briefly explain what happened and the receptionist will more than likely be able to put you in touch with the correct person.

Have you spoken to anyone there before? Failing that, maybe ask for HR?

Just tried there and they said they would put me through to the branch that I applied for, then they cut me off lol. It would nearly be impossible to find out who in what department in what branch contacted me :( I really hope they contact again :(

No, I just applied last week and they called today, I'll try the HR route, probably closed after 5pm though. I wonder if they will bother contacting me again given the number of applicants to jobs these days...

I didn't explain myself properly. I meant the name of the person when you applied for the job. Do you have that name?

No there was no name on the application, I dont have any contact name at all. It was an online form for a large company. I called and got put through to HR, but no one answered as it was after 5pm. Im just worried that, that will be the last call from them and they'll move on to the next in line.

Or in my case, I got a call from a Dublin based collections company who called me while I was driving, in connection with my application for a job, so I asked politely if the lady could call me in half an hour as I was driving. She said yes. Never called back. Gave it a few days and used my initiative as the company has no telephone number for their Dublin based operation, and called their UK number. They gave me the telephone number for Dublin, and I called again and was told that I was one of thousands (shocker) and that I had missed my chance and I was now at the bottom of the pile. Shame - they sound a fantastic company to work for!!!!

Wow that is a terrible experience. The weird thing is with my application is that on the application form it asked when is the best time to contact me for an interview and I ticked evening and specifically said in the application that I was in college and gave the days/times that I attend college. So they knew I wouldnt be available at the tiime they called and no voicemail or email so I couldnt even follow up on it.... So annoying. Need a feckin job, lol.
