Unemployed but offered some contract hours a week

    Hi there,
I am writing this on behalf of a friend. He is unemployed but has been offered a number of contract hours a week to do some design work.

It's nothing huge, but he wants to come off as professional, and is obviously not VAT registered. He's not one to screw the system, he's just found it hard finding work of late.

What is the best/legal approach here and what are his tax obligations?

Will this affect his dole payments?
    Thanks in advance.

sorry, just an update on this one... my friend is not on the dole...after a rigorous 4 month assessment they found he was in receipt of €12 per month in excess so his job seekers allowance was cancelled.

But still in relation to this new work, what are his tax obligations?...standard income tax rules I would have thought?
