Over the last few years I would say we have repaired upwards of 50 of these units by fitting the repair kit sold by VW. I have never had one back with a repeat failure.

So based on that I would say you are safe enough to replace like with like. We can turn them around in 2 hours on a drive in drive out basis and it costs €450 in total.

Please don't use sinspeed. They wasted my time by sending me two faulty pumps. I ended up going with ecu testing.

    Thanks George and hanlog1.

My car is 08 and low mileage and my dilemna is if replace with a VW pump in 5 years I could have the same design fault appear again.

Is the new VW pump same as old and has the same issue? Any recall or goodwill likely for VW Ireland/UK, it's an import.

If I go with ecutesting.com they claim this below basically they claim they change the design with new materials. This would need to remove, post, fix and post back and install, meaning cost and downtime.

"When we rebuild your ABS pump we not only correct the problem but the materials and processes we use will reinforce your ABS pump module to prevent the fault from ever reoccurring."

    Any thoughts from folks?

The replacement part is supposedly improved and won't suffer the same fault as the original. I haven't seen any car newer than 2008 affected by the problem.

I personally don't trust any of those ECU repair companies. I have had too many bad experiences with them.

My car is 08 July so I must be unlucky. 3rd sensor to go on this car (yaw sensor fixed under goodwill or would have been 1000, coolant/idle thermostat and now this one, first and last VW I will ever buy. Thought I was being smart buying the 1.9tdi not 2.0 CR as had assuming most problems ironed out by now! That's sure the irk some folks.

    Anyway rant over.

I assume the safety issue is no ABS or is it worse? It's clearly a family car so I need to understand asap.

George many thanks for your information and comments, always a mine of solid, trusted advice.

It is not confined to VW. The same MK60 ABS unit gives the same trouble in various models made by VW, Seat, Skoda, Audi, BMW, Mini, Honda, Peugeot, Citroen, Ford, Mazda and Volvo to my knowledge and there may well be more.

That is the problem with modern car manufacturers, they just assemble parts made by third party companies and they all seem to use the same parts in a lot of cases. The Passat and Mondeo for example, share the same TRW ABS unit which also gives a bit of trouble, though not to the same extent as the MK60.

I had this problem for a year. I've a 03 audi a3 2litre tdi. My symptoms were: no abs, traction and warning light coming on after while. Sent my pump to ecu testing where they found a fault in the ecu for the pump. They bench tested it too. That sorted my abs and traction worked on and off after. We then found a damaged wire in loom for traction.

I got a lifetime warranty with the pump which only stays with the owner.

    My codes were:

    00810 brake pressure senders 1/2

    00778 steering angle sender g85

01423 sensor for lateral acc g200

Could this fault code be caused by other issues, maybe brake pads low? I ask as I heard a squeal a bit when breaking today

No it is always the sensor.

The ESP light is staying on in the dash, after those thunderstorms yesterday.

Has anybody had any joy with goodwill from VW on these repair kits? A 5 y.o. imported VW, with some VW service history?

What sort of money is a repair kit, fitted?

€450 fitted using an independent garage. I'm not sure what VW would charge.

Sorry to dredge up old thread but looking for mechanic recommendations in Dublin for this job on a mk5 GTI. Have put it off for long enough & main garage price quoted to me is too high.

    Appreciate any suggestions
