The way sites like MtGox work is that they "hand over" all their bank details to you! Most Irish banks now have SEPA transfers as part of their online banking, you use their (MtGox for example) IBANN/SWIFT details on your bank's site to send money to them. At no stage do you authorise them to take money ad-hoc from your irish bank account.

As part of a SEPA xfer there's a message - you put your MtGox a/c id in the message so that when the money arrives in their bank it gets moved to your MtGox trading account. There are sender and receiver fees in sepa.

Ok thanks for pointing that out, I'm just very wary and skeptical of anyone asking for bank acc details in this day and age and especially the whole scene Bitcoins is invloved in lol.
